SENIOR MECHANICAL ENGINEER

Purpose:
In this role, you will play a key part in the mechanical development of DC's cutting-edge trailers, collaborating daily with a highly creative team dedicated to pushing the boundaries of trailer design and manufacturing. You'll tackle complex engineering challenges, pioneering new solutions that set industry standards in the manufacturing and automotive space.
Responsibilities:
- Design and model new trailer models and options.
- Update existing trailer models, options and manufacturing processes utilizing feedback from internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage multiple projects from initial design to final completion while tracking the progress of the projects through all phases simultaneously.
- Oversee the development and tracking of team and vendor project timelines.
- Prepare and present project updates to management and executive team members.
- Ensure proper communication between Product Engineers and other organization departments.
- Collaborate with a team of engineers and fabricators to see products from initial concept to production.
- Work with internal and external subject matter experts to enhance design performance.
- Develop solid models, mechanical layouts and detailed part designs.
- Generate appropriately dimensioned 2D drawings, using GD&T when appropriate.
- Verify function of prototypes, working directly with manufacturers to ensure high quality production.
- Evaluate and choose appropriate materials for the application using simulation tools where appropriate.
- Assist with development and specification of manufacturing jigs, fixtures, and automation to enhance manufacturing efficiency and increase quality.
- Validate new designs through simulations, design reviews, DFMEAs, prototyping and finished product testing
- Review and recommend changes to the product development process to reduce product development time and improve the overall quality of new products.
- Recommend and protect innovative solutions through patent disclosures.
- Research and implement beneficial technologies throughout our engineering and manufacturing processes.
- Collaborate with outside partners on integration of sub-components and 3rd party accessories to ensure extraordinary solutions for our customers.
- Facilitate the engineering change management process among our internal and external stakeholders.
- Mentor and ensure the growth of junior team members.
- Experience with manufacturing ERP/MRP systems for production planning, inventory management, and engineering change control
- Develop design testing and validation plans and create findings reports.
Professional Requirements
- BSME/MSME degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university
- 4+ years in a product development engineering role.
- Expertise in structural design and material selection.
- Strong critical thinking skills.
- Efficient organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple processes and priorities effectively.
- Ability to quickly assess assigned task requirements, identify potential challenges, and communicate effectively in order to expedite the successful execution of assigned work.
- Ability to work independently and within cross-functional team environments.
- Excellent written communication, verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Experience
- Solidworks proficiency strongly preferred.
- FEA proficiency, Solidworks and ANSYS preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in structural testing: planning, organization, execution, data reduction and correlation
- Manufacturing or Automotive industry experience
- Experience managing projects and coaching teams through project completion
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with industrial automation.
- Sheetmetal Design, Design of Welded Structures & Welding Fixture Design
- Proficiency in GD&T.
- Hands-on manufacturing/prototyping experience.
